There, she finds her loyalty to Jude and the mission's founder tested when she falls in love with their perceived enemy, a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army. When she is assigned to clean up the K9 unit after a disciplinary hearing, Leavey identifies with a particularly aggressive dog, Rex, and is given the chance to train him. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy. Kate Mara is an American actress. She starred in the Netflix political drama House of Cards (2013) as Zoe Barnes and appeared in the Fox TV series 24 (2001) as computer analyst Shari Rothenberg. She appeared in Brokeback Mountain (2005), We Are Marshall (2006), Shooter (2007), Transsiberian (2008), Stone of Destiny (2008), The Open Road (2009), Transcendence (2014), and Fantastic Four (2015) as the Invisible Woman. She also appeared in the FX horror mini-series 'American Horror Story: Murder House' as Hayden McClaine. Mara's film debut was in Random Hearts (1999), with Harrison Ford in 1999, directed by Sydney Pollack. In 2015, she also had a supporting role as astronaut 'Beth Johanssen' in director Ridley Scott's film The Martian (2015). In the same year, she also starred as Ashley Smith in the movie Captive (2015). Kate was born in Bedford, New York. She is one of four children of Kathleen McNulty (Rooney) and NFL football team New York Giants executive Timothy Christopher Mara. Her younger sister is actress Rooney Mara. Her grandfathers were Wellington Mara, co-owner of the Giants, and Timothy Rooney, owner of Yonkers Raceway, and her grand-uncle is Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney, the former US Ambassador to Ireland. She is the great-granddaughter of Art Rooney Sr., the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers football franchise. She often sings the national anthem at Giants home games. Her father has Irish, German, and French-Canadian ancestry, and her mother is of Irish and Italian descent. Jun 14, 2017 Now, another Marine, Corporal Megan Leavey, is the subject of a docudrama “based on a true story” chronicling her suspiciously-similar relationship. Megan Leavey is based on the true life story of a young Marine Corporal (Kate Mara) whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved man. ![]() Mara graduated from high school a year early. She was accepted at the prestigious NYU Tisch School of the Arts but deferred her admission for three consecutive years because of to acting and singing. Tom Felton was born in Epsom, Surrey, to Sharon and Peter Felton. He has been acting since he was 8 years old at the suggestion of an actress friend of his family who recognized Felton's theatrical qualities. Felton met with an agent, and two weeks later, after auditioning with over 400 other children, he landed an international commercial campaign and went abroad to work. A talented singer, he started singing in a church choir at the age of 7 and has been a member of four choirs at school. He declined an offer to join the Guildford Cathedral Choir. He is a keen sportsman enjoying football (soccer), ice skating, roller blading, basketball, cricket, swimming, and tennis. After working on Anna and the King (1999) with Jodie Foster, Tom received his big break in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) as Draco Malfoy, school boy rival to the titular character as played by Daniel Radcliffe. Tom managed to film the part of Draco in all eight 'Harry Potter' movies while also having an active life outside the magical world it created. In between shoots he filmed independent horror movies The Disappeared (2008), Night Wolf (2010), and The Apparition (2012) with Twilight's Ashley Greene. It was directly after completing his filming on 'Harry Potter' that he landed his roles in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and From the Rough (2013). His newest projects are In Secret (2013), Fangs of War (????) and Attachment. In between acting gigs, Tom still manages times with his music. He is one of the founding owners and talent of Six String Productions, a recording company devoted to signing young musical artists overlooked by the major recording industry. Bradley Whitford's credits in film, television and theater include work with some of the most noted writers, directors and playwrights in the arts, and constitute a career worthy of a Juilliard-trained actor -- which he is. But stardom is something else altogether, and it remained elusive, at least until 1999 and his appearance on NBC's acclaimed political drama, The West Wing (1999). Bradley Whitford was born in Madison, Wisconsin, to Genevieve Smith Whitford, a poet and writer, and George Van Norman Whitford. He studied theater and English literature at Wesleyan University and earned a master's degree in theater from the prestigious Juilliard Theater Center. Whitford's first professional performance was in the off-Broadway production of 'Curse of the Starving Class,' with Kathy Bates. He also starred in the Broadway production of 'The West Wing' creator Aaron Sorkin's 'A Few Good Men.' His additional theater credits include 'Three Days of Rain' at the Manhattan Theatre Club, 'Measure for Measure' at the Lincoln Center, and the title role in 'Coriolanus' at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C. Some of Whitford's most memorable performances include roles in such films as The Muse (1999) with Albert Brooks and Bicentennial Man (1999) with Robin Williams. He has also appeared in Scent of a Woman (1992), A Perfect World (1993), Philadelphia (1993), The Client (1994), My Life (1993), Red Corner (1997), Presumed Innocent (1990), and My Fellow Americans (1996). He also had a prominent supporting part in the horror thriller Get Out (2017), as a suspicious suburban father. First known as a rapper who became one of the more prominent voices in hip-hop's new millennium renaissance, Common later transitioned into acting. He was born in Chicago, and is the son of educator Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines and Lonnie Lynn, an ABA basketball player turned youth counselor. On October 6, 1992, Common released his first LP, 'Can I Borrow A Dollar?' Under the Common Sense moniker. Tracks like 'Charm's Alarm' and 'Breaker 1-9' established him as a lyricist with wit, street-smarts, and love for extended similes, while tracks like 'Heidi Hoe' would touch on the misogyny that would surface sparingly on future work. In 1994 he released 'Resurrection', notable for the smooth 'Large Professor' produced title cut as well as 'I Used To Love H.E.R.' , an ode to hip-hop. This album further increased his underground reputation while giving the hip-hop nation a new solid conscientious voice in a year that was excellent for underground artists (Nas, Kendrick Davis, Digable Planet, et al.) After a name change brought on by a lawsuit, Common reemerged in 1997 with 'One Day It'll All Make Sense'. With guests ranging from Erykah Badu to Canibus to De La Soul and production help from mainstays No I.D. And Dug Infinite, the album had a distinctly underground flair. His big mainstream breakthrough album was yet to come. After an appearance on The Roots smash 1999 album, 'Things Fall Apart,' Common moved to MCA Records. He soon was in the studio collaborating with the Okayplayer collective and with help from the forward-thinking production troupe Ahmir-Khalib Thompson (aka Questlove), James 'Jay Dee' Yancey, James Poyser, et al), he released his fourth album, 'Like Water For Chocolate' in the spring of 2000. With its varied sonic plateau (Afrobeat, funk, and old-school soul) it was much different from previous outings. On the strength of tracks like the 'DJ Premier' produced banger 'The 6th Sense', the album was a success, becoming a worthy addition to 'The Next Movement'. In 2003 he released 'Electric Circus'. The album, a hip-hop/funk/soul/rock/psychedelia hybrid, polarized hip-hop fans like no other album has in recent memory. Common has also chosen to redefine himself, swearing off the alcohol, marijuana, and fornication that he had once indulged in. Also in 2003 he appeared in a TV sitcom episode. With only a couple minor roles between 2003 and 2004, in January of 2007 he made his big screen debut. Edith Falco, called Edie, was born on July 5, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, to Judith Anderson, an actress, and Frank Falco, a jazz drummer. She is of Italian (father) and Swedish, English, and Cornish (mother) descent. Edie grew up on Long Island and attended SUNY Purchase, where she was trained in acting at the prestigious Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film. She moved to Manhattan after graduation, auditioning for roles and supporting herself as best she could; for example, working parties for an entertainment company where she would wear a Cookie Monster costume and urge people to get on the dance floor. Falco began getting film roles, mostly smaller supporting parts, starting in the late 1980s. Her first notable role was a supporting part in Bullets Over Broadway (1994). Ironically, it was in television where the conservatory-trained Falco's career first flowered. She obtained her first recurring roles in 1993, on the acclaimed police dramas Homicide: Life on the Street (1993), as the wife of a blinded police officer, and Law & Order (1990) as a Legal Aid attorney. Next came a recurring role on the prison drama Oz (1997), as a sympathetic corrections officer. All the while she continued to work in film, still in small supporting roles. Supporting herself in acting continued to be a challenge until at last Falco found success in 1999, when she was cast in the HBO series The Sopranos (1999), as Carmela, the wife of New Jersey Mafia street boss Tony Soprano. 'The Sopranos' gained her a great deal of visibility and praise for her exceptionally strong dramatic skills. In 2000 Falco became one of the few actresses in history to sweep all of the major television awards (the Emmy, the Golden Globe and the SAG Award) in one year for a dramatic role. She is also the first female actor ever to receive the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Drama. Interestingly, her roles have frequently put her on one side of the law or the other--a defense attorney, a corrections officer, a cop's wife, a mobster's wife, a police officer (in a pilot for a television adaptation of the movie Fargo (1996)). She has also worked frequently on the stage, such as her award-winning work in the play 'Sideman,' in 'The Vagina Monologues,' and in revivals of 'Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune' (which was hugely successful) and 'night Mother.' Unlike her brashly assertive alter-ego Carmela Soprano, Falco is self-described as shy, but is clearly a witty and down-to-earth person. She sometimes travels with her beloved dog Marley, driving so that the dog does not have to travel in the baggage compartment. At one point Falco had a relationship with her 'Frankie and Johnny' co-star Stanley Tucci. She was treated for breast cancer in 2004 and her prognosis is very good. In December 2004, Falco adopted a baby boy, whom she named Anderson, after her mother's surname. Another adoption, of a baby girl named Macy, followed in 2008. Driven by this wave and decreasing mortality, the Argentine population grew fivefold and the economy 15-fold: from 1870 to 1910 Argentina's exports went from 100,000 to 2,500,000 t (110,000 to 2,760,000 short tons) per year, while frozen beef exports increased from 25,000 to 365,000 t (28,000 to 402,000 short tons) per year, placing Argentina as one of the world's top five exporters. Furthermore, real grew so fast that despite the huge immigration influx, between 1862 and 1920 went from 67% of developed country levels to 100%: In 1865, Argentina was already one of the top 25 nations by per capita income. By 1908, it had surpassed Denmark, Canada and The Netherlands to reach 7th place—behind Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Belgium. Argentina's per capita income was 70% higher than Italy's, 90% higher than Spain's, 180% higher than Japan's and 400% higher than 's. Despite these unique achievements, the country was slow to meet its original goals of industrialization: after steep development of capital-intensive local industries in the 1920s, a significant part of the manufacture sector remained labor-intensive in the 1930s. Both Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Star Wars: The Last Jedi should top Hidden Figures and while 2018 won’t have the same depth, it should still earn a victory in the year-over-year comparison. January 2nd, 2018 It was a really close with and both earning around $67 million during the four-day weekend. In fact, Jumanji beat The Last Jedi on. Overall, the box office grew 11% from last weekend to $194 million, which was 4.3% more than the same weekend. It’s going to take a bit before we have the final numbers for all studios to compare how 2017 did compared to 2016, but it is safe to say 2016 will come out on top. December 30th, 2017 The last year to have Christmas and New Years Days on a Monday was 2006. Using that year as a guide and adjusting for changes in the market, specifically how much more front-loaded films tend to be, I was a slight improvement for from to. That didn’t happen. In reality, the film lost 2.2% of its daily box office to hit $19.06 million on Friday. Granted, the film already has $483.76 million and will likely hit first place for the year by the end of business today, surpassing. Even with a slightly reduced weekend estimate of $54 million / $70 million, it is on pace for $600 million domestically with relative ease, making it a shoo-in for the sixth-highest-grossing of all time. December 28th, 2017 As per usual, the weekend after Christmas has no new wide releases. This means there will be almost no changes in the top five from, meaning will win with ease, while will be in a comfortable second place. This weekend, and were neck-and-neck with just over $90 million combined. The Last Jedi and Jumanji should top that, giving 2017 one last win in the year-over-year comparison. December 26th, 2017 We still don’t have final numbers for the weekend or Christmas day, and because of the holidays, we likely won’t get them until January 2nd. This means were are stuck with estimates for and other films and no information for. Outperformed estimates with $71.57 million for a four-day total of $99.03 million. Its 11-day total is $395.63 million and it will take just 12 days to get to. That’s not the record, but it is the third best result and that's still very impressive. December 24th, 2017 It’s a very crowded weekend, to say the least, in theaters, with five new wide releases already playing, and another joining the fray tomorrow. Is unperturbed by the competition, and will come out an easy winner, according to studio estimates released on Sunday. Its $68.486 million projected 3-day gross takes it to $365 million after 10 days in release. Among its new records this weekend, it became the, and will have the. All this is in spite of the fact that takings are expected to be down significantly today as everyone prepares for, or starts celebrating, the holiday. December 23rd, 2017 This weekend complicated, as Christmas Eve lands on a Sunday and Christmas Day technically makes it a four-day weekend. Although with so many schools closed for the holidays, you could almost call it a eleven-day weekend. This makes interpreting ’s box office numbers more difficult than usual. Earned $24.68 million on Friday, putting its running tally to $321.28 million. It tied for at just 8 days. On the other hand, this is a little bit lower than our. It still has a real shot at over $100 million during the four-day weekend, but it could have to wait until Tuesday to get to $400 million. December 22nd, 2017 bounced back 5% from, earning $17.8 million on for a week-long total of $296.5 million. It is impossible to compare the film to, as the seventh day in that film’s run was Christmas Eve and it fell 28% as a result. Grew a lot more, up 12% to $16.7 million. I was expecting the film to bounce back more than this. That said, it is already in seventh place on the and will be in fourth place by the end of the weekend. Add in Christmas and it will be at over $500 million by the end of the year. December 21st, 2017 This is technically Christmas Weekend, so it should come as no surprised that there are a lot of movies vying for that lucrative Christmas family audience. Two of them, and, opened yesterday, and we’ve already talked about how well they did on their. On Friday, they will be joined by,, and, none of which are earning good reviews and only one of which is expected to be a box office hit. This should leave on top of the chart with room to spare. This weekend, dominated the box office, while was the only release that was a major hit. December 1st, 2017 The box office was mostly as expected during. Granted, over-performed and underperformed, but overall there were no real surprises. This means the month started slow, but we got a couple of wins in the end and that bodes well going into the final month of the year. That said, December is a weird month. There are five weekends, but only seven films that I’m sure are opening truly wide. Additionally, five of those seven films are opening Christmas weekend. I’ve never seen a month this lop-sided. There are no real wide releases the first two weeks of the month, so we will likely start slow again, but when debuts, we should see explosive growth at the box office. It will open with more than any film last made and that should help 2017 cut into 2016’s lead. 2017 won’t be able to close the gap entirely, but the month could do well enough to cut 2016’s lead to under $250 million. That’s my goal. If that happens, I will be happy. October 27th, 2017. ![]() Reporting from Bogota, Colombia — Esperanza Tello couldn't resist. When a salesman at the International Chevrolet dealership here took $500 off the sticker price, then threw in easy credit, free insurance and the title fee, she took the plunge. Tello recently became the proud owner of a new Chevy Spark GT. It's the first new car that the 41-year-old elementary school teacher has owned. 'I've wanted one for a long time, but the down payment was always too high. Here I found the terms were just what I needed,' said Tello, as she drove her sporty red $14,000 compact off the lot. 'This will help me with my second job, going around to little towns selling perfumes and cosmetics.' Vehicle sales growth in China, now the world's No. 1 car market, is grabbing headlines. But Latin American countries including Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Colombia also are seeing car sales skyrocket. A rapidly expanding middle class and easier credit are feeding the regionwide boom. 'Before, buying a new car was just for the upper class,' office manager Carlos Arturo Pena said as he kicked tires at the Chevy dealership in Bogota. 'Now, it's much more within common people's budgets.' In Brazil, the region's top market, more than 3.5 million cars and light trucks were sold last year — up 86% compared with 2006. Toyota is the best-selling carmaker in Chile in October. * See the Top 50 All-brands by clicking on the title * The Chilean new car market is up a splendid 17.9% year. Its economy is growing fast and wages are rising. 'In a macroeconomic sense, Brazil has greater stability, more per capita income, more jobs and more credit than before,' said a spokesman for Brazil's largest car manufacturers association, ANFAVEA. 'And consumer confidence is rising, so people are more likely to join the ranks of car owners.' In percentage terms, car sales are even more impressive in Peru. The market is tiny, with just 116,000 cars sold in 2010. Still, that was triple the number sold in 2006. In Argentina and Colombia, respectively, new-car sales last year gained 50% and 25% over unit sales in 2006. The trend continues in most Latin American countries. In Colombia, February car sales totaled 25,527 units, a 51% gain over the same month in 2010. In Chile, February sales grew 37% from a year ago, according to the National Automotive Assn. Not all Latin American markets are firing on all cylinders, however. Mexico, whose economy is tightly connected to that of the United States, posted sales of about 820,000 vehicles last year. That's an improvement over 2009, but well down from 1.2 million in 2006. Dealers said the opening of Mexico's market to used cars from the United States has cut deeply into sales. In Venezuela, about 125,500 cars were sold last year. That's down from a peak of about 492,000 in 2007, before President Hugo Chavez began applying higher duties and import restrictions to help rein in Venezuela's inflation, South America's highest. Overall, the region's sales statistics justify the recent comment by GM South America President Jaime Ardila that the carmaker's Latin America operation is its most valuable asset in terms of return on investment and growth. Economic stability in Brazil and in other Latin American countries has given rise to relatively cheap credit that has made buying a car much easier. For example, Tello bought her $14,000 car with just $1,000 down, or $600 less than the dealer was asking previously. Because loans now can be paid off over five to seven years instead of two as was the custom several years ago, her payments are lower and more affordable. The car market in several countries also has been stimulated by the arrival of several low-cost Asian brands including Chinese models that sell for as little as $7,000, said Manuel Garcia, executive with Ital Motors, the Fiat franchisee for Peru. Latin America has long been an export platform for the world's automakers. But carmakers increasingly are focusing on selling to customers in the region. Hyundai plans to open a $600-million assembly plant next year in Piracicaba, Brazil, that will produce cars for the local market. GM South America is adding a third shift — and 1,500 jobs — to its Sao Caetano plant to add four new models to its Chevy line offered to Brazilian customers. The expansion is part of a $1-billion investment program in Brazil by GM, the country's leading manufacturer with a 20% market share. But the downside to the car-buying frenzy can be seen in rising gridlock and deteriorating air quality. In Bogota, monumental traffic jams and delays in mass transit projects have made cars a political issue, dimming the popularity of Mayor Samuel Moreno. In Lima, choking pollution has spurred calls for laws requiring owners to junk all cars 20 years or older. Citizen groups are calling on the government in Lima to restrict the number of taxis and buses and to enforce vehicle emission laws.
